Man dies in Lunenburg County boating accident

A 78-year-old Canaan man died after a boat overturned on Hoop Pole Lake on May 5.

Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a call at 7:47 a.m. reporting a man had succumbed to injuries he sustained following a boating accident in Hoop Pole Lake. The lake is located near David Collicutt Rd. in Canaan.

The two occupants of the boat fell into the water when the boat overturned. The 78-year-old man became trapped under the boat and his friend was not able to rescue him. Both men were wearing PFDs.

The matter remains under investigation by Lunenburg District RCMP with the assistance of the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service.
