Major emergency management exercise planned for Bridgewater

First responders and government agencies are testing skills this fall during a mass casualty incident exercise planned for the South Shore Exhibition grounds in Bridgewater.

The emergency management exercise is slated for October 2 and involves the province's health authority, emergency management office, and community college. The Town of Bridgewater, Emergency Health Services, and Canadian Armed Forces are also taking part.

"While the exercise will have a number of components, it is centred around a simulated motor vehicle incident crashing into a crowd of people resulting in the activation of first responders and involving a mass casualty incident," government spokesman Andrew Preeper said.

The Department of Health and Wellness is hosting the exercise, which aims to test emergency protocols and procedures and practice cooperation between agencies and personnel during an emergency event.

"The exercise will include volunteer actors serving as casualties," Preeper said.

More details will be released as the October 2 date approaches.
