MODL in talks with buyer for former admin building

by GAYLE WILSON

The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL) is in talks with a buyer interested in purchasing its former administration building at 210 Aberdeen Road in Bridgewater.

At their March 9 council meeting, and following an in-camera meeting where the issue was discussed, council members voted unanimously to enter into a sale agreement with an un-named buyer on the property.

Dave Waters, MODL's director of business development, tourism and infrastructure who has been overseeing the sale of the property, subsequently told LighthouseNOW in an email he was unable to share details of the arrangement "until the conditions are met." The deadline for meeting the conditions, he said, is April 15.

After moving into its new multi-million-dollar administration centre at 10 Allée Champlain Drive in Cookville last November, MODL has been looking to sell the old facility, PID 600044401, which was listed on its website for $669,000.

A description of the .62-hectare (1.53-acre) property posted on MODL's website notes it has a total leasable area of 1,003.5 square metres (10,802 square feet) encompassing the main floor and the walk out basement level. The main floor area contains the former reception area, several offices, kitchenette, utility and storage area, a large meeting space, washrooms and a large vault.

The basement level contains additional offices, along with washrooms, a utility room and the electrical room for the entire building. The site also includes a detached garage and parking, as well as a portable office trailer.

"The property is situated in the Town of Bridgewater that has a land use control of Urban Commercial (C3) which permits retail use, personal services shops, institutional use, restaurant, wineries and micro-breweries," notes the website.
