Lunenburg’s heritage society transfers bandstand interest to town

by Keith Corcoran

The Town of Lunenburg and the Lunenburg Heritage Society have ended their lease arrangement concerning the bandstand with the fixture's ownership now in the town's hands.

Both sides wanted to terminate the lease and agreed to enter into a new contract dealing with the bandstand, which is on town property in the area of Cumberland Street and Townsend Street, near the war memorial.

A clause in the new deal alluded to the society staying beyond the terms of a five-year agreement authorized in 1988. Lunenburg now has sole title and ownership of the bandstand.

Previous usage commitments will still be honoured for a private wedding in September and Folk Harbour Festival Society events during the summer.
