A 48-year-old man was taken into custody after an alleged armed robbery at the Shoppers Drug Mart in New Germany.

Lunenburg County RCMP Sgt. Mark MacPherson said multiple units responded to a 911 call from the pharmacy at around 11 a.m. on August 28. RCMP say a man entered the pharmacy with what appeared to be a handgun and demanded narcotics and money.

No one was injured and the man fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and narcotics. About 90 minutes after responding to the call, police arrested the man without incident in a vehicle in New Germany.

Police arrested the suspect a short distance away from the pharmacy and seized his vehicle.

Yellow police tape cordoned off the pharmacy, which was closed for a period of time while police conducted their investigation.

A police dog was also brought to the scene.

The RCMP is asking any witnesses who may have seen something to contact police.
