Hubbards man arrested after RCMP spot erratic driver

A Hubbards man is under arrest after a call for RCMP assistance from a peace officer from another agency led to the recovery of a stolen van.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. on January 23, Halifax District RCMP responded to a call for assistance from a peace officer who observed a van that had lost a tire on Hammonds Plains Road in Upper Tantallon. The van was crossing in and out of oncoming traffic.

Upon seeing the van travelling erratically, the peace officer, who was on patrol at the time, activated his emergency equipment to initiate a vehicle stop. The van continued on for a short distance then pulled over.

Upon arrival, police determined the vehicle had been stolen. The driver and lone occupant, a 40-year-old man from Hubbards, was taken to hospital by EHS as a precaution. He faces a charge of theft under $5,000 and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on February 28, 2019 at 10 a.m.
