Horror-fantasy series slated to film in Lunenburg

by Keith Corcoran

An Ontario-based production company has budgeted $10 million toward the upcoming filming of a pilot that could translate into a television series that sees Lunenburg portrayed as a New England community.

The budget is about $250,000 for the Lunenburg portion for the production of what's titled Locke & Key, information supplied to the town by Gary Swim, location manager of High Park/Locke & Key Production indicated.

The Hollywood Reporter said Locke and Key is Hulu's adaptation of an IDW graphic novel of the same name.

The publication said October 2 the show is a "horror/fantasy series that revolves around three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine only to find the house has magical keys that give them an array of powers."

Actor Danny Glover, arguably best known for his roles in the Lethal Weapon movies, is said to have a cameo role in the pilot.

Swim tells Lunenburg officials that satellite office space is being sought in town between October 10 and 27. He estimates the town will see a crew of between 75 to 80 people with filming in various parts of the town, including the Hillcrest Cemetery, taking place during daytime hours.

October 10 is flagged for preproduction with camera dates slated for October 18 and 19.

Motorists can expect intermittent stop and go traffic in some downtown areas. Lunenburg has indicated that public notices will be issued to ensure residents and businesses are made aware. Swim indicated there's a possibility the production will return to town if additional footage is needed.
