The lobster chowder competition on February 9 in Chester Basin was a real claw-biter, and it attracted a record crowd to witness the crustacean celebration.
Over 600 lobster chowder enthusiasts convened to sample eight different lobster chowders and vote for their favourite.
Chester's Café, Chester Golf Club, The Deck, Fo'c'sle Tavern, The Gold Bean Café, Island View Family Restaurant & Bakery, Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre, and The Savary Plate Eatery and Pizzeria all competed for the coveted Golden Ladle Trophy.
In the end, The Gold Bean Cafe proved its crustacean chowder chops and crawled off with the Golden Ladle for the best lobster chowder. Second place went to the Chester Golf Club, while The Deck in Blandford took third.
The event's manager Stephanie Beaumont with Tourism Chester, South Shore Tourism Cooperative and SEA AND BE SCENE said in a release: "When we set out to create a signature event in February, we recognized the wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything the Municipality of Chester has to offer, so the fact that the vendors' market doubled in size meant that more gifted artisans, makers and creators could show off their amazing work.
