Firefighters rescue woman trapped on outdoor elevator

Members of EHS and the Liverpool Fire Department were called out January 30 at about 10:10 p.m. to an address in Liverpool to rescue an elderly lady trapped in her outdoor elevator.

Fire Captain John Long said that she was using the elevator to get herself and her wheelchair from her doorway to the ground when the power source failed about half-way down.

"EHS was on the scene when we got there and the lady was being kept warm," said Long. "We just picked her up and set her on the ground and she was able to work it out from there."

He said four units quickly responded to the scene with about 20 firefighters in tow.
