SHAID Tree Animal Shelter

Recently we received a phone call from a good Samaritan who had been feeding a homeless stray for several months.

He told us the cat was not neutered and that he would take him into his [no pets allowed] apartment on the recent coldest nights so the friendly cat would at least be warm and fed.

He became extremely concerned when the cat showed up one evening with a big chunk tore out of his eyebrow, and several abrasions to his face, clearly from a nasty fight. He cleaned him up the best he could, but knew he couldn't afford to take the cat to a vet. When the injury didn't appear to be healing well, he knew the fluffy, grey boy needed help.

Oscar arrived at SHAID at the end of last month and was immediately evaluated, cleaned up, weighed, vaccinated, and treated for parasites. We had an appointment at Oakland Veterinary Clinic the following day for three canine neuter surgeries, so I asked if Dr. Greenlaw could have a look at this boy as well and see if she could fix his eye lid, neuter and test for feline leukemia and fiv; she quickly agreed when she saw his picture.

He was a rockstar - tested negative, was neutered, and eyebrow patched back together. He healed up wonderfully, spending many days lounging in the office, and after having his stitches removed and receiving his all-clear for adoption from the vet, he quickly found his forever home.

Our latest fundraiser is happening right now at www.32auctions.com/SHAIDsilentauction2023 and our goal is to raise $5,000 to be allocated directly to our medical fund for this fiscal year. On this website, you will see 50 amazing prize packages, experiences, and gift certificates – all available for you to bid on.

The auction closes at 4 p.m. on March 24. It is very easy to sign up and view the items available! Thank you to our amazing community for supporting this endeavour – and allowing us to continue helping animals in need, like Oscar.
