False abduction story leads to girl’s arrest in Queens County

A 16-year-old girl from Lower Sackville has been charged with public mischief after sending misleading texts suggesting that she was abducted.

Just before 6:00 p.m. on November 10, Halifax District RCMP responded to a call of an abduction of a 16-year-old girl. the girl sent texts to her mother and told her that some people were trying to take her out of the province.

The RCMP made immediate patrols and made several inquiries, only to find out that the girl was with friends in Liverpool.

The search for the girl involved police from Lunenburg, Queens, Upper Tantallon and Lower Sackville. Police spokesperson Jennifer Clarke said they made a lot of inquiries and "put a lot of resources" into the search.

The RCMP arrested the girl in Greenfield, Queens County, and transported her to a family member's home and released her. She is scheduled to attend court in Halifax on December 20.
