Emergency crews respond to fuel spill at former government wharf

First responders were at the former government wharf in Bridgewater Thursday responding to a report of a sheen of oil on the LaHave River.

Emergency crews, sent to the LaHave Street address at about 4:20 p.m., noted a strong smell of fuel before discovering a substance in the water.

Rescue craft from the Bridgewater and Northfield and district fire departments put booms on the water to contain the spill and form a protective barrier.

Federal officials have been notified of the incident.
