Fire broke out early this morning at the Kaizer Meadow Landfill and as of 10:28 a.m. was listed under control.
Staff called 911 when they arrived to work at 6:45 a.m. and six fire departments from Chester, Chester Basin, New Ross, Hantsport, Lunenburg and Windsor are in attendance. As well, the Brooklyn Fire Department aerial apparatus has been called for support.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
The landfill is closed until the safety of the public is ensured. Waste collection is proceeding as scheduled.
Emergency Measures and the Department of Natural Resources has been notified.
