Centenarian taking it one day at a time

A resident of Hillsview Acres Home for Special Care, Anita Fancy celebrated her 100th birthday March 16, and became the Region of Queens Municipality's latest centenarian.
She spent the day visiting with friends and family with COVID-19 protocols in place. She also had some "good" cake to celebrate.
Her secret for longevity?
"I just took it one day at a time. I never wanted anything I didn't have and was happy with what I had myself," said Fancy.
Fancy lived in Queens County for much of her life, and most recently Caledonia, before moving five years ago into Hillsview, which is about halfway between Liverpool and Caledonia on Highway 8.
She and Noble Fancy had been married for approximately 60 years. He was eight years older than her.
"It was good that he was older than I was because I was only 16 when we got married. He was 24, so he was quite settled," said Fancy.
Out of this union, they had six children, who went on to give them 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed working on the farm in Grafton where they had cattle, pigs and hens and a perennially large garden.
"I enjoyed doing a little of everything. Mostly, I had a big family to work for and I enjoyed that," said Fancy.
She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing games, bingo, reading books, listening to the radio and music, hooking mats and working on quilts.
Fancy claims to feel pretty good health-wise, and says she enjoys being at Hillsview. One of her few wishes: that she had better eyesight so she could participate in more games.
