COVID-19 concerns prompts closures connected to Municipality of the District of Lunenburg

by Keith Corcoran

The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL) is closing its Aberdeen Road, Bridgewater, administration building at 12 noon, March 16, as part of the ongoing efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.

"Roughly 45 employees are affected, and all staff including contract and hourly employees will receive their regular compensation," Sarah Kucharski, a spokeswoman for MODL, told LighthouseNOW. "Most staff have the ability to continue to work from home, and will do so," she said.

The plan is to re-open April 6, a statement from the MODL reads, but that intention will be re-assessed as needed.

"I encourage people to practice social distancing, as recommended by the provincial and federal government," Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson said. "Please check in by phone, email or text with friends, family and neighbours to ensure they're aware of the situation and self-isolating."

Programming is cancelled at the Municipal Activity Recreation Complex in Dayspring. All municipally-operated parks, recreation and municipal properties are also temporarily closed and programming shelved.

"Urgent building inspections will be prioritized and completed during the closure," reads the statement. "If you have an urgent building inspection or dangerous premises inspection, please call (902) 541-1325 to book."
