Bridgewater figure skater named athlete of the month

Gabrielle Levesque is the Cleve's Source for Sports Junior Female Athlete of the Month for February. The figure skater from Bridgewater competed in the Canadian Tire National Figure Skating Championship from Mississauga, Ontario from January 13-19.

The competition hosted over 240 competitors from 10 provinces. Levesque won silver in junior pairs with a short program score of 50.52, a free program score of 90.39 and a total score of 140.91.

Previously Levesque and her partner, Pier-Alexandre Hudon of Quebec, gained a medal in pairs at the Canadian championships in in Vancouver in 2018. The pair earned bronze in competition.

Levesque is a former Nova Scotia juvenile ladies champion, and and in 2017 won the Great Britain junior national championship with her former partner from that country.

After competing and being monitored by Skate Canada in Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax, she and Hudon were picked to go to Gdansk for the ISU junior grand prix in 2018.

The pair was also named as first alternates for the junior world championships.

The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards.

A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Junior Male Athlete, Junior Female Athlete, Senior Male Athlete, Senior Female Athlete, and Team.
