Annual Riverport road race set to run again

What started 13 years ago as an event for community members to support the efforts of the students of the (now-closed) Riverport and District Elementary School has seen participation more than double as runners/walkers are anxious to experience physical activity while enjoying the "salt air" and hospitality of Riverport.

Selected, once again, by Run Nova Scotia to be part of its prestigious Performance Series, the 13th Osprey 5 km Run/Walk has experienced a flood of entries from runners from various areas of Nova Scotia (and of varying running abilities) anxious to join participants from Lunenburg County in this family-friendly event on the flat, paved "out and back" course along the scenic waterfronts of Riverport and Lower LaHave.

All profits from this popular event are shared by the Riverport Community Centre and PRO Kids. (Last year, more than $4, 000 was raised for these community organizations.) No doubt this accounts for the tremendous support that has been shown to the Osprey 5 km over the past 13 years by the citizens of Riverport and the surrounding area. Neighbours, friends and family members participate year after year, including a four-generation family.

A race day registration fee of $27 can be reduced by registering online at https://raceroster.com/events/2019/22789/2019-osprey-5k-run-walk prior to 11:00 a.m. of May 10 and paying only $22 ($17.60 for RunNS members). Free t-shirts are provided to the first 100 entries.

The race starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 11 at the Riverport and District Community Centre, where there will be some well-earned refreshments, awards, draw prizes, live music and fellowship following the run.
